Cheer for Charlie

From big bottom to Big Top - Charlie Dimmock joins the circus!

Charlie Dimmock, from Ground Force, starred in a one-off television special Cheer for Charlie which was broadcast on BBC1 on Thursday, 4th October 2001. (Programme repeated on Wednesday 26th June 2002.) Charlie had been training for three months with the Romanian trapeze troupe The Flying Ciobanu. The performance was staged in the Big Top at Cottle and Austen's Circus, Ascot Racecourse, Surrey, on March 10th 2001. She said she thought she was fit (many men already think she is!) ) until she began training. Charlie claimed to be looking forward to the experience, but doubted her skills as a trapeze artist.

Does my bum look big in this?

This is page 1 of Cheer for Charlie. Page 2 is the actual performance - Charlie as you've never seen her before, in a skimpy outfit, and make-up!

Preparation and Training

Charlie's training included grip exercises, and fitness training with the army,

plus cycling, rowing, deportment lessons from Wayne Sleep and hypnosis sessions from Paul McKenna to combat Charlie's fear of heights.

Three months training, both in the circus ring and at other venues were needed before The Flying Ciobanu felt confident enough to let Charlie join the team for this single performance.

Quote from Cottle of Cottle and Austen's Circus "You'll have to wear better support than you do for Ground Force.

Never mind the safety net. If these bra straps break, I won't be able to see what I'm doing
